Guangdong Blitzes on Illicit Recreational ArcadesPolice in south China's Guangdong Province have executed repeated blitzes on illicit recreational arcades since July, as part of the nationwide campaign against prostitution, gambling and drug abuse.In Guangzhou, the provincial capital, police inspected more than 5,000 recreational sites, such as video arcades, karaoke bars, saunas and massage parlors, as well as beauty salons and tea houses. More than 700 recreation sites have been given a short deadline to clean up their act, while about 380 have had their licenses revoked. The police have arrested over 4,500 criminal suspects involved in some 430 cases. "Things are getting better, but there still remain some problems," a policeman said today. The policeman joined a raid on several recreational sites in Guangzhou Thursday night, led by Liang Guoju, director of the Guangdong provincial public security bureau. |
