Breakthrough Scored by China in Digital Library Technology

China has made a breakthrough in the digital library technology. Beijing Digiark Information Corporation lately launched its products for information processing, accessing, searching and issuing. This means that the bottleneck problem restricting China's digital library construction and digitalization of e-commerce information has been solved.

The development of digital library has been put on the agenda by the Chinese government in recent years. The system developed by Digiark is to collect and process those useful images, files, audio, film, software, scientific data and then to have them stored and managed as of high quality.

So far, 90% of the Internet information is in English. The Chinese information makes only up to 0.01 % and 0.05 % respectively in information inputting and outputting volumes. The digital library technology by Digiark includes automatic scanning, information editing and processing system, digital accessing and searching system, and e-book commerce website launching and what not. It has not only effectively solved the problem of putting Chinese characters on paper to digitalization, but has also adopted the PDF mode and the advanced image compressing technology, thereby making the same amount of information to be saved in a little space and much faster when transmitted.

As reported the Beijing Municipal Government has invested 300 million yuan for setting up the Capital Digital Library and so has China. Digiark has signed an agreement of cooperation with China Digital Library and is discussing for a further tentative cooperation with the Capital Digital Library.
