NGIS Software Forcefully Developed in China

China's NGIS (national geographical information system) software, as is reported from the 2000 NGIS Evaluation Conference, has come to take a 28.9% market share since the end of last year. But against this in the meantime was a deplorable situation five years ago when NGIS software technology had just been a national blank to be filled in China.

China's NGIS is an integrated digital image/data storage application system. Being the pillar of "digital globe" technology, NGIS plays a great role in China's socioeconomic construction and national defense.

Moreover, a thing to be noted is that top priority has been given by the Ministry of Science and Technology to developing NGIS software technology as a key technological project to be developed during the "9th Five-year Plan" in China. Much success has already been made to that end in contributing to the country's economic construction. Typical is MapGIS (software independently developed) that has been well used on "Shenzhou" spacecraft launched in China. Software GROW is another having been successfully used in building up the country's largest electricity distribution system as Wuhan Electricity Power Network. Chinese experts say they will make greater efforts in developing independent NGIS software technology for a robust growth of market share by China's NGIS software products in the years to come.
