China to Strengthen Ideological Education Among Judges

China's top judge Thursday called for strengthened ideological and political education among judges of the country.

Xiao Yang, president of the Supreme People's Court, made the remark at a national conference on the ideology and publicity work of the country's courts which began Thursday.

He said that people's courts at all levels should study the important directives initiated by Chinese President Jiang Zemin, namely that "the Communist Party of China (CPC) should always earnestly represent the development requirements of China's advanced social productive forces, the progressive course of China 's advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the people."

Xiao urged people's courts at all levels to work whole- heartedly for the people, and spare no effort in safeguarding judicial justice and social righteousness.

Judicial workers across the country should also work to improve citizens' legal awareness to ensure the implementation of laws, he said.
