Microsoft Sues Chinese Company for Piracy

Beijing No.1 Intermediate People 's Court Thursday started the hearing of Microsoft's anti-piracy case against ABD company.

Microsoft discovered last year that ABD's three computers illegally installed Windows 95, Chinese Windows 98 and Chinese Office 97.

ABD is a small computer manufacturer in the Zhongguancun Technological Development Zone in Beijing. It was fined in September 1998.

Microsoft asked ABD for two million yuan in compensation and a public apology. The main conflict between the two is the amount of money.

The court will issue its final judgment in days.

Microsoft sued two Beijing-based companies in May 1998 for illegally packaging and selling Microsoft products, receiving 790, 000 yuan in compensation. In November last year, Microsoft anti-piracy case against Beijing Yadu Science and Technology Group in November 1999 was thrown out of court due to lack of evidence.
