Peres leaves for Hong KongIsraeli Minister of Regional Cooperation Shimon Peres left for Hong Kong Thursday afternoon after winding up a brief visit to Beijing.Peres, invited by Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan for discussion about the latest development of the Middle East peace process, arrived in Beijing Wednesday for a two-day visit. Vice-Premier Qian Qichen met with Peres this morning and pointed out that the Palestinians are entitled to restore their legitimate rights according to relevant resolutions of the United Nations and agreements reached between Israel and Palestine. In Wednesday's talks, Tang told Peres that China is very much concerned about the situation in the Middle East and hopes that Israel and Palestine will continue seeking for a solution acceptable to both through peaceful talks. Qian and Tang both stressed that China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has supported the Middle East peace process, made unremitting efforts in this regard, and will make due contribution to this end. Peres also met with Zeng Peiyan, minister in charge of China's State Development Planning Commission, during his stay in Beijing. |
