PLA Deputy Chief of General Staff Meets US Guests
Xiong Guangkai, deputy chief of the general staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), met Thursday with a capstone delegation from the US National Defense University, led by Robert Sennewald, former commanding general of the US army forces.
Xiong stressed that a stable and healthy Sino-US relationship conforms to the fundamental interests of the two countries and is conducive to the peace, stability, and development of the Asia-
Pacific region and the world at large.
He said that the two countries should proceed from a strategic and long-term perspective and properly handle bilateral relations, especially the Taiwan issue, in a bid to jointly make positive contributions to the peace, stability, and prosperity of the world in the 21st century.
