China to Host IOI2000

China will host the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2000 from September 23 to 30, the first time in Asia since its debut in 1988.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Chinese Association of Science and Technology, State Natural Science Fund Committee, Beijing Municipal Government and Chinese Computer Society, the 12th IOI will draw delegates from 70 countries and regions -- the largest number of participants ever.

Created by UNESCO, IOI is to solve designated problems through computing programs within limited time.

China's eight participants, divided into two groups with four each, have been finalized last May, organizers said.

China got the host right after competing with the United States. So far, the organizing activity has received support from all sectors in China.

The official website of the IOI2000 is: www.ioi2000.org.cn.
