Shanghai Cable TV Network to be Improved with High Technology

The existing cable TV network in Shanghai will be gradually replaced by a two-way wide-band cable TV network, according to Shanghai Cable TV Network Co. Ltd.

The cable TV network, established in 1991, now has 2.93 million users and covers 88.5% of the city's TV sets. It is the largest of its kind in the world.

However, as times goes on this network proves to be more and more incapable of meeting the increasing demand of the society. The low transmission frequency (under 450 MHz)and the narrow width of the band makes it difficult to transmit the increasing number of programs.

As is reported that the new cable TV network can not only enable people to receive more analogue programs, but also allow them to have access to Internet pages, VOD and Intelligence Phone through devices such as cable modem and STB.
