Shanghai to Host International Industry Fair

This largest industrial and commercial center of China will host an international industry fair from October 24 to 28.

The Second Shanghai International Industry Fair will let visitors see the city's latest high-tech achievements, including those in biomedicine, environmental protection, information and new materials. It also lets participants make business deals, according to Chinadaily.

"We expect more participants, especially enterprises from abroad and other provinces, regions and municipalities," said ViceMayor Chen Liangyu, adding that the fair's eight halls will add booth space this year.

Four forums, with themes including China's entry into the World Trade Organization and western development strategies, will also take place at the fair.

The 1999 fair drew some 220,000 visitors and saw participants close deals worth 2.5 billion yuan.

The city government, the State Economic and Trade Commission and the ministries of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation, Information Industry, Science and Technology are sponsoring the event.
