Cambridge University Rowing Team Arrives in Beijing

Eleven rowing players from Cambridge University arrived in Beijing Tuesday to take part in the forthcoming "Palmtop Computer Rowing Match: Qsinghua University--Cambridge University" -- the first time they row in Beijing, according to Chinadaily.

The 180-year-old rowing team, which arrived at Beijing's international airport at 9:30 am Tuesday, is to compete with Beijing's Qsinghua team August 20 on Kunyu River in west Beijing.

The match is one of the series activities aimed at welcoming the 21th Universiade to be held in Beijing in 2001, which is expected to draw university teams from more than 160 countries.

The rowing match will be held on a 2,000-metre runway on Kunyu River from Changhewan Wharf to Baolian Natatorium.

The Cambridge team has successively won seven times in Cambridge-Oxford rowing matches during the past eight years while Qsinghua team was also the winner of the recent Beijing University-Qsinghua University match this year.
