GM Revs Up for Shares in China

The first vehicle of the Jinbei-GM Automobile Co., Ltd. will roll off the assembly line on December 15, Chinadaily reported.

Jinbei-GM is a 50-50 joint venture between General Motors and Jinbei Automotive Co., Ltd. of China's First Automotive Works.

The 230-million-US-dollar joint venture will produce Chevrolet Blazer sport utility vehicles and S10 pickups.

Shenyang Vice Mayor Jiang Xianzhi said the joint venture is a "flagship" development in the city's automobile sector and the municipal government of the northeast China city will give the company better services to ensure its success.

Jinbei-GM intends to make more vehicles for the Chinese market.

The venture will initially put out 30,000 vehicles per year and then expand to 50,000 a year.
