Sea Fishery Output in Jiangsu UpThe enormous effort to increase sea-farming industry made the output from sea fisheries in East China's Jiangsu province report a 9.7 percent increase during the first half of the year, despite limit imposed on fish output.Sea-farming output increased by 31.5 percent over the same period last year, a major impetus behind the province's rise in total sea fishery production which hit 250,000 tons. Like most coastal regions which put a limit on sea-fishery output to preserve fishery resources, Jiangsu province mapped out a plan at the beginning of the year, stipulating that the number of fishing boats be cut in half and the fish output be reduced from 680,000 tons in 1999 to 600,000 tons by the year 2005. In response to that, coastal regions in Jiangsu started to tap the potential of sea-farming, either building new sea-farming bases or converting fresh water bases into sea-farming ones. Meanwhile, advanced technology has been introduced in 40 percent of the sea-fishing area.
