China to Build Information Platform for Petroleum Industry

China's petroleum industry is trying to build a unified information platform to bring information management, prospecting and mining, and production and trading of petroleum under a computer network.

The three major petroleum companies including China National Petroleum Corporation, China National Petrochemical Corporation and China National Offshore Oil Corporation will join hands in developing the design and construction of the platform, according to sources with the International Symposium on Chinese Petroleum Software Data Management, which opened in Shanghai Tuesday.

The Chinese petroleum circle has already invested US$30 million to create a petroleum software engineering company in Shanghai to speed up the building of an information platform.

The symposium has attracted senior executives from several renowned international companies, who gave speeches about how 13 petroleum companies in the world have worked together in building a unified information platform.
