BA Grounds Concorde

British Airways has grounded all of its Concorde jets amid fears about the safety of the planes' tyres.

The last BA Concorde has flown back from New York without passengers and with a minimal crew to join the rest of the fleet at Heathrow.

The company made the move as it was warned by the air regulation authorities that the supersonic plane's airworthiness certification was about to revoked.

Although the official reason for the suspension of the safety certificate will not be known until Wednesday, a statement from the French Transport Ministry suggests that problems with Concorde's tyres prompted the air regulators' action.

The move follows the fatal crash of a French Concorde last month which killed 113 passengers.

None of Air France's five remaining Concordes have flown since the crash on 25 July.
