Tianjin to Finish Reshaping Traditional Industries with Hi-tech in 3 YearsFrom now on to the year 2002 Tianjin Municipality will reshape its traditional processing and raw material industries by advanced techniques as with electronic information, advanced manufacturing, biology, new materials and new energy resources as well as environmental protection.The reform will be focused on ten key industries, namely, transportation equipment, machinery building, medicine, chemical industry, construction materials, foodstuffs and textiles. Upon its completion, the hi-tech industries will become the pillar industry of the city. By the year 2002, the total output value of electronic information, biology technique and modern medicine and new energy resources is planned to reach 86 billion yuan, an annually average increase of 20% or 23% of the city' s total industrial output value. The industrial structure will be greatly changed by then. For pivotal industries as automobile and machinery equipment, electronic communication, chemistry and metallurgy, their production equipment and techniques, main products and management will reach the initial level as that of developed countries in 1990s so as to realize a further expansion in economic scale and make the industry strength a driving force. Meanwhile, a batch of enterprises or enterprise groups with competitiveness and superiority will have to be formed. Some 40 such enterprises as automobiles, Steel Tube Company, Tianjin Medicine Corporation, will have to turn out major products with intellectual property rights of their own. They will also be able to master world advanced techniques and optimize component allocations so that they are capable to realize a sustainable development and continuous expansion. It is also required that New hi-tech products with a high added value and good market potential will be developed. On the other hand, about 50 traditional products with brandnames, after being updated by way of renovation, will have to turn out more competitive products for domestic markets. The sales value and profits for Xiali Car, Dynasty Drywine, and rubber products are estimated to reach respectively 30 billion and seven billion yuan by 2002. |
