Ancient Culture Lures More TouristsTourism industry in Lijiang, Southwest China's Yunnan Province has increased by 30 per cent each year since 1996 thanks to its investment in the tourist infrastructure and the protection of minority cultures, according to Duan Zengqing, Party secretary of the Lijiang Prefecture.A total of 100 million yuan (US$12 million), some 5 per cent of local revenue, has been invested in tourist infrastructures in the Ninth Five-Year Plan (1996-2000), a 30 per cent increase on the investment in the Eighth Five-Year Plan (1991-95), Duan said. Naxi ancient music, reserved as part of Naxi culture along with Naxi dance, pictures, rituals and philosophy, has earned an extra 10 million yuan (US$1.2 million) for the prefecture. |
