Exhibition of Shenzhen's Achievements Held in Macao

A photo exhibition featuring the achievements of Shenzhen as a special economic zone (SEZ) of China was opened Tuesday at Macao Landmark Conference and Exhibition Center.

The 120 photos on display depict Shenzhen's fundamental economic and social changes over the past 20 years since it became one of the earliest SEZs in China on August 26, 1980.

By taking advantage of its position as the neighbor of Hong Kong, Shenzhen has achieved a drastic economic boom. In 1999, the per capita GNP of Shenzhen ranked first among Chinese cities.

Shenzhen Mayor Yu Youjun said at the opening ceremony of the exhibition that the city should make concerted efforts with the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) to achieve common prosperity.

Yu noted that Macao investors have started more than 50 projects in Shenzhen and there lies great potential for cooperation between the two areas.

Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao SAR, attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition which will last till August 19.
