Macao SAR to Set Up Committee for Organizing Customs

A preparatory committee will be set up soon to take charge of organizing the Customs of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China, the government said in an administrative decree.

Members of the committee include representatives from six departments of the Macao SAR government, namely the Marine Police, Economic Services, Statistics and Census Services, Public Security Police, Security Forces and Postal Services, according to the decree published Monday.

The committee will be headed by Choi Lai Hang, who has been appointed chief of the customs one month ago by the State Council following nomination by the Macao SAR's Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah.

Major tasks of the preparatory committee include working out the organizational structure of the customs and drafting necessary legal documents. A preparatory work report is required to be submitted to the chief executive by the end of November this year.

At present, customs functions are scattered among separate government departments.
