Chinese Women's Soccer Team First to Gear up for Qualifiers
Head coach Ma Yuan'an said Monday that the Chinese women's soccer team will meet strong opponents and it must gear up for qualifiers in Sydney.
He said that in Sydney Olympic group soccer matches only two out of three women's teams, China, America and Norway can be taken on as winners through qualifiers. In recent tournaments, the American and Norwegian teams have accumulated more points than China, showing their strong strength. So, the Chinese team must take care not to be eliminated and be sure to win out through qualifiers.
When talking about preparations for Olympic soccer contests, he said, there are three aspects he is worried most. First, there are many wounded in the team, including famous athletes Zhao Lihong, Liu Ying, Pu Wei and attack force Sun Wen. Second, not everyone in the team is mentally soundly prepared or tough enough. And third, their physical strengths are much weaker than they were in the World Cup last year.
