Clinton Not Welcome in Colombia: Rebel FARC

The rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) said U.S. President Bill Clinton is not welcome in Colombia, referring to his next visit to the South American country on August 30.

"Clinton brings with him enough dollars for Colombians to keep on killing each other indefinitely," said Alfonso Cano, FARC

ideologist in an interview to the Internet magazine "Semana" published Monday.

The United States is searching to progressively increase his military participation in Colombia's internal affairs. That is why the U.S. president is not welcome, said the guerrilla leader.

The Colombian leader considers Clinton's first visit as the United States' support for President Pastrana's "Plan of Colombia" aimed at controlling drugs trafficking, peace and development in the South American country.

The Plan of Colombia channels resources amounting to 7.5 billion U.S. dollars, out of which 1.3 billion dollars will be provided by the United States.

Senior U.S. officials, like Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Pickering and National Anti Drugs Policy head General Barry McCaffrey, met Colombian leaders last Thursday in Cartagena, capital of the state of Bolivar, to prepare for Clinton's visit.
