Attempts at Solving Kashmir Sans Pakistan to Fail: President

Pakistan President Rafiq Tarar Monday asked New Delhi to keep in view the realities of the Kashmir dispute, saying attempts at finding a settlement of the issue sans Pakistan will "fail and create further complications."

In his address at the national flag-hoisting ceremony held in the President House here to mark the country's 53rd Independence Day, Tarar also reiterated Islamabad's commitment to "support the Kashmiris politically, diplomatically and morally in their just struggle."

"Pakistan, being a fundamental party to the Kashmir dispute, has offered to hold a serious, purposeful and result-oriented dialogue with the Indian leadership," he said. "India should keep in view the ground and historical realities and demonstrate its sincerity both in commitment and action for a resolution of the issue."

The president stressed that attempts at finding a settlement of the Kashmir issue while isolating Pakistan will fail and give rise to further complications.

He also called on the international community to uphold the principles of truth and justice and contribute toward a resolution of the Kashmir dispute on the basis of relevant U.N.resolutions and in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

"If the U.N. resolutions are discriminated against as old and new or if they are determined by the size of a state party to the resolutions, the United Nations will lose its credibility," he said.

Tarar warned that Kashmir, which has been a source of military conflicts between Pakistan and India in the past, has become a nuclear flash point

Pakistan, he stated, is a peace-loving country and believes in a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute. He added that his country will welcome any efforts for a resolution of the issue"in accordance with the will of the Kashmiri people."
