Landslide on Chinese-Myanmar Border Kills Nine

Nine people have been killed by a landslide on the China-Myanmar border since Sunday noon despite intensive rescue efforts.

The landslide occurred at 12:15 hours Sunday at the Dai-Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture of Dehong in southwest China's Yunnan Province. A total of 45 people were buried in the mud and rock. To date, 27 people have been rescued. Nine others are still missing.

The landslide was caused by successive rain over the past few days. Smaller landslide occurred on August 12, said a local official.

Soon after the landslide, a rescue team composed of the ranks and files of the People's Liberation Army and medical workers rushed to the spot. The rescue is still going on.
