South China's Hainan Fights Locusts

This island province of Hainan has been mobilizing forces to fight against locusts which have been threatening crops in the province.

According to local sources, more than 20,000 hectares of crops in the province have been hit by locusts, one of the four worst plagues by locusts since 1987.

The provincial plant protection station has bought 400,000 yuan of farm pesticides and spray which have been distributed to substations in different areas of the province to fight locusts.

About 10,667 hectares of crops are no longer threaten by the locusts, sources said.
