Yunnan Invests Nearly 0.2 Billion Yuan in Protecting Ancient Town
The work of protecting the Lijiang Ancient Town - a World Cultural Heritage recently received another huge financial support. The ancient town protection and infrastructure program of Lijiang Naxi Autonomous County, which draws 0.18 billion yuan investment, was recently approved by the relevant department.
The Lijiang Ancient Town at the foot of the Yulong Snow-clad Mountain was built in the Song Dynasty. It was put on the list of the World Cultural Heritages by the UNESCO for its beautiful landscapes, simple and elegant architectural style, splendid ethnic culture and harmonious humane environment.
It is reported that because the buildings in the ancient town are of wooden structure, they are quite weak in anti-seismic and fire-prevention. With the increase in the number of tourists, it's a must to raise the capability of the ancient town to resist and prevent natural disaster and improve both internal and external infrastructure conditions, to optimize the environment of the town and hence to build it into a national as well as a world tourism cream.
It's said that this program in near future will mainly focus on the fire control system, feed pipe network system, solid waste disposing facilities as well as the ecology and afforestation and other infrastructure and environment protection program of Lion Mountain (Shizishan) in the center of the Lijiang Ancient Town, the renovation of roads and architectural complex of Ming and Qing dynasties, reconstruction of Southern Gate Street, the tourist infrastructure around the ancient town, etc. Completion of these projects will provide better protection for the ancient town and its outskirts and bring about the virtuous development of tourism.
