Full Back to Chinese Olympic Athletes

Resident Chinese said these days in Australia that they will extend all warmth and full support to their Olympic athletes compatriots so that they do their best and win honors for the Chinese nation.

Wu Changmao, general-secretary of Australia Chinese Association and chairman of Olympic Friendship Promotion Association between Australia and China, said at a news conference in Sydney that his Promotion Association is a volunteer service group set up spontaneously by Chinese and overseas Chinese in Australia. During the Olympics, they will give a cordial reception to Chinese athletes for them to find their feet as soon as possible and win more medals. And they will assist the Australian government in holding the Olympics, prompt friendship between the two countries and greater ties among the Chinese and overseas Chinese.

Hawke, former Australian Prime Minister and honorable chairman of the Promotion Association, made his congratulation that the Association will make endeavor to ensure Chinese Olympic athletes and officials to have a good time in Sydney. He believed that the Sydney Olympic Organizing Committee and Australian people will try their best to help Chinese athletes. He thought that China will succeed in holding 2008 Olympics.

He specially pointed out that Australia is on good terms with China and that it is most important for Australia to develop a friendly and effective relationship with China. He said that he is pleased to see that exchanges between the two countries, between governments, enterprises and civilians have continuously pushed ahead.

Ren Xiaoping, counselor of Chinese Embassy in Australia, read the congratulatory letter of Zhou Wenzhong, ambassador of Chinese Embassy in Australia. The letter said the action of resident Chinese and overseas Chinese showed their enthusiasm and love for their motherland. The Chinese Embassy in Australia will be happy to be with them and our Chinese athletes. And we believe that Chinese athletes must will put up a tenacious fight and win flying colors at the Olympics.

Wu Keming, general-consul of Chinese Embassy in Australia, thanked the Chinese and overseas Chinese for their close concern over Chinese sports and contribution in forging friendly ties between Australia and China.
