Israeli Ambassador to France Dies of Heart Attack

Israeli ambassador to France Eliahu Ben Elissar died of a heart attack on Saturday in Paris, Agence France-presse quoted the Israeli embassy as saying.

Posted in Paris since 1998, Elissar,68,was the first Israeli ambassador to Egypt after the David Camp peace agreement was signed in 1979 and was ambassador to the United States before being appointed to his post by former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Earlier this month, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak appointed Eytan Bentzur,general director of the Israeli Foreign Minister, as Israel's new ambassador to France to replace Elissar.
