More China-Made Sewing Machines ExportedChina's exports of sewing machines and related parts saw a year-on-year 64 percent rise to 192.22 million US dollars during the first half of this year, according to Chinadaily."The exports are increasing rapidly and the perspective (of exports) in the second half of the year is also encouraging," said He Ye, secretary general of the China Sewing Machinery Association. Previously, China-made sewing machines could only be sold in a handful of countries and regions, but have since been marketed worldwide from Asia to Europe and America. This is a result of the global economic recovery and a more mature domestic sewing machinery industry, said He. Domestic makers produced high quality and hi-value-added sewing machines by upgrading manufacturing equipment, introducing advanced technologies, and developing new products on their own. In 1999, China's sewing machinery industry had eight billion yuan in output value, accounting for 0.1 percent of the nation's GDP. China accounts for 45 percent of the world's output of sewing machinery, but its transaction value only seized five of the global total. This indicates that China still has a long way to go in improving the quality, varieties, prices and services in the industry, He said.
