South Korea Asks U.S. Embassy to Cancel Travel WarningSouth Korea Saturday urged the United States embassy in Seoul to cancel its travel warning for American visitors. The warning, released by the U.S. Embassy in South Korea on July 21, advises American citizens in South Korea to stay alert and keep a low profile and avoid large crowds when visiting commercial districts. "The embassy's announcement can provoke misunderstanding in Korea-U.S. relations, so we are requesting the embassy to cancel the advisory," said a spokesman for the South Korean Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry. The U.S. embassy in downtown Seoul has reportedly installed 10 super-modern cameras in the middle of trees just outside its compound for security reasons. Strong anti-U.S. sentiments appeared in South Korea after the United States Forces Korea (USFK) recently acknowledged it had secretly discharged poisonous chemicals formaldehyde into South Korea's Han River.
