21 Killed in Clash in S. Philippines

Twenty-one persons were killed when members of a cult group clashed with lawmen in the southern Philippine province of Bukidnon Friday afternoon.

The clash occurred while lawmen were serving a warrant of arrest against Roberto Madringa Jr., alleged leader of the cult group known as "Catholic God Spirit" at the cult's compound in Pangantukan, Bukidnon, the Philippine News Agency reported.

It quoted a police report as saying that 17 members of the cult group, including Madringa, were killed along with three members of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unity (CAFGU) and a civilian volunteer.

Police said CAFGU members and civilian volunteers went to Madringa's Compound only to be met by a volley of gunfire, and a firefight ensued between the lawmen and members of the cult group.
