China Ensures Telecom Inter-Network Connection

China's Information Industry Ministry says it's made a thorough investigation into phone failures in Lanzhou, the capital of northwest China's Gansu Province.

On August 2, more than 260,000 mobile phone users in Lanzhou found their calls to local fixed phones cut off.

That continued happening for two days.

As a result of the investigation, three people have been given administrative punishment.

An official from the Ministry says the incident was caused by fierce competition between two telecom operators -- the Lanzhou branches of China Telecom and China Mobile.

He notes the ministry issued rules to ensure the inter-network connection last year, and those rules must be followed unconditionally.
