Porn Publications Halted at South China CustomsCustoms officers at Jiangmen, a port city in south China's Guangdong Province, uncovered and investigated 39 cases involving passengers sneaking pornographic publications from overseas into the Chinese mainland in the first seven months of this year.Customs sources said that they confiscated 99 video compact disks (VCD), 77 pornographic books and 1,619 pornographic computer pictures from the 39 cases they investigated. Most of the carriers were young men who attempted to smuggle the pornographic publications by way of hiding the pornographic materials inside their luggage. The confiscated pornographic publications will be destroyed according to the regulations of the state, said customs sources. To prevent the negative impact of pornographic publications on Chinese youngsters, China has issued decrees banning entry of pornographic publications from overseas. Offenders will be given fines ranging from 100 yuan to 50,000 yuan in accordance with the amount and type of pornographic publications. A spokesman with Jiangmen Customs pledged that they would work harder and intensify supervision over the port of entry to plug up the source of pornographic pollution from abroad. |
