Leaders Face Blame for Disastrous Case: MinisterLeading officials or managers of a region, department and unit, which witnessed most severe casualties, will also face penalties besides punishment on persons shouldering direct blame.Minister of the State Economic and Trade Commission Sheng Huaren said in Beijing that up to July 9, China has met with 65 most disastrous cases this year, killing 1,318. Among them, nine cases each savored more than 30 lives, killing a total of 524, he noted. Most occurrences, he said, were resulted from improper mouthing work, operation against rule, lax management or loose supervision. He added that the most recent cases, in which poisonous materials were stolen at a gold mine in Guangxi's Baise City and in Henan's Central China Oil Field, clearly showed there were management loopholes. "This should timely call for our attention,''he said.
