China to Build First Nature Reserve of Chinese Sturgeon
Based on the feasibility studies of China's experts in environmental protection and oceanic biologists, the 535.8 square-km sandbank in Dongsha, Tiaozini and Jiangjiasha, the sea areas of Dongtai City in east China's Jiangsu Province, will be delimited as China's first nature reserve of Chinese Sturgeon.
The Chinese Sturgeon is a rare species left since the Cretaceous period and is known as "living fossil of fish" and "giant panda in the water". The wetland ecological system in the coastal area of Dongtai City provides an important place for Chinese Sturgeon to propagate and live here.
To ensure the continued existence of the regenerative rare animal resources and enrich the animal groups in the sea of this area, Dongtai City has decided to delimit a special nature reserve for the Chinese Sturgeon and adopted relevant measures to protect them at the same time.
