Int'l Art Expo Opens in Dalian

The 2000 Dalian Art Expo opened Wednesday in Dalian, port city in northeast China's Liaoning Province.

On display are hundreds of artworks from organizations and galleries in a dozen countries, including Russia, Japan, France and Iceland. Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and some 25 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China are also represented.

The expo will feature oil paintings, traditional Chinese paintings, watercolor paintings, prints, pottery and African wood carvings.

The local Dongyu Museum has set aside a special exhibition area to show prints of Picasso's works.

Works by renowned Chinese artists including Qi Baishi and Zhang Daqian will be auctioned at the expo on August 12.

The expo is sponsored by the Chinese Artists' Association and Dalian's Federation of Literary and Art Circles. It is to be held once a year.
