Railway Bridge Completed in SW China

The construction of a 679-meter-long railway bridge was basically completed Thursday in southwest China.

The Huatupo Bridge is a section of the 899-km railway line between the city of Neijiang in Sichuan Province and this capital of Yunnan Province.

The bridge, 490 km from Kunming, has 15 supporting pillars. The eighth pillar is 110 meters tall, the tallest in Asia.

The bridge crosses the Sancha River, which marks the border between the city of Zhaotong in Yunnan Province and Weining County in Guizhou Province.

It took 17 months to build the bridge, as the area has a complex geological structure and is vulnerable to strong winds. However, it was still completed seven months ahead of schedule.
