Resolutely Opposing Any Form of Taiwan Independence
The "statement" says that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory, this is a historical fact and status quo, which has been recognized by the overwhelming majority of the countries in the world. At present, although the two sides of the Straits are not yet unified, they are Chinese territories, and people living on both sides are Chinese belonging to the same race and using the same language and maintaining profound kindred feelings. No one can change this national feeling. Immediately after Lee Teng-hui dished out his "two-states theory", he was unanimously opposed and strongly condemned by people of the whole country and by the broad masses of overseas Chinese and foreigners of Chinese descent, he was dubbed as "trouble-maker" by the international community and he finally quit the historical stage dejectedly. Facts proved that anyone who advocates "Taiwan independence" comes to no good end. The "statement" urges leaders of Taiwan to learn a lesson from this, to stop practicing "Taiwan independence", and any kind of disguised "two-states theory", make response to the Chinese government's statement with t goodwill and sincerity, conduct negotiation under the One China principle as soon as possible, and, eliminate divergence and seek common ground to finally realize the peaceful reunification of China. Zhao Jinjun, minister of Chinese embassy in France, also spoke at the meeting. He hoped that the overseas Chinese would make positive contribution to promoting the peaceful reunification of China. "Council for the Promotion of China's Peaceful Re-Unification" in French was founded in Paris on July 5 this year. According to Yang Ming, chairman of the council, more than 20 overseas Chinese organizations in France have joined the council.
