CCTV to Telecast Ancient Coffin Opening Live

China Central Television (CCTV) is planning to telecast the opening of the coffin in a 2,000-year-old tomb in the western part of Beijing scheduled for August 20.

Archeologists said that the excavation work of the tomb is now at a key phase.

The Beijing Cultural Heritage Administration began excavating the tomb, dating back to the Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-24 A.D.) and located near Laoshan in Shijingshan District, in March this year.

Archeologists have unearthed a dozen wooden poles believed to be part of the framework of the tomb. Part of the outer coffin has also been unearthed.

There are no signs that the tomb has been robbed, they said.
