US Visual-Phone Research Center Set Up in Dalian
A visual communication research center was set up today by the Transtar Communication Co., Ltd. of the US in the High-tech Park for Returned Students in Dalian, coastal city of northeast China's Liaoning Province.
The company plans to invest an extra 25 million US dollars next year, apart from two million US dollars that will be invested this month, to build up its visual-phone production base for an annual capacity of 200,000 units, said Wang Fang, who is in charge of the center.
Established in Los Angeles in 1998, Transtar is mainly engaged in the research, production and sales of portable visual telephones. It has a production center in Taiwan, which reports an annual sales of more than three billion US dollars.
There are about 30 visual telephone producers in China, but only ten of them have reached the stage of mass production, according to Huang Donglin, a senior engineer with the Ministry of the Information Industry.
