Scenic City to Become Multi-Functional Center

A grand international ocean forum has concluded recently in Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province and helps accelerate the pace of building the scenic coastal city to be the nation's and even the world's oceanology center.

The century-old city is intending to increase its popularity worldwide by becoming a major multi-functional center in China.

To reach the goal, Qingdao has mapped out a blueprint for local development in the scientific research, trade, finance, commerce, tourism, industry, and information areas.

Qingdao is aiming to turn to be a trade, financial and information and shipping center in north China in ten years, says mayor Wang Jiarui.

So far, Qingdao has introduced the investment from seven overseas financial institutions and several others among the world's top 500 companies.

The city will provide more opportunities for overseas business people to invest local health care, scientific research, education, accounting, and consulting sectors, says mayor Wang.

It is building the risk investment mechanism and related service network for local hi-tech and venture companies, he adds.

Qingdao is among China's first group of 14 coastal cities which are opened to the outside world in 1984.
