Zhejiang to Invest 10 Billion Yuan in University Construction
Zhejiang province is inputting a huge sum of money in the construction of five campuses of higher learning distributed in Hangzhou, Ningbo and Wenzhou, hoping to become a big province in education within a couple of years.
The total investment is reported to exceed 10 billion yuan. The estimated investment for the three universities in Hangzhou alone has already topped 11 billion yuan.
The total construction area of the five institutions of higher learning will exceed 30,000 mu of land with students on campus outnumbering 200,000.
To construct the complexes of higher learning, Zhejiang government has decided that the financial department will increase 1.2 % annually for allocation in education in the coming seven years. Meanwhile, the government will encourage more investments from among people to run schools. The province calls for party committees at all levels to emancipate their minds, change concepts to support the running of colleges by social forces in diversified ways according to the law of education development under the condition of market economy.
