Women's Football Team Ready for Sydney Olympics

Chinese women's national football team are now receiving physique and skills training at western Beijing's Xishan Mountain, to prepare for 2000 Sydney Olympics, which falls on September 15, according to Wednesday's Chinadaily.

"All the players are keen to fight for the Chinese team's honour," team leader Sun Wen said.

Chief coach Ma Yuan'an affirmed the players, who were once a bit pessimistic after the team were beaten by Norway 0:3 at the beginning of the year, are making progress and regaining confidence.

"At that time, I think we were slipping back," Ma recalled, adding however, the team fared well during the Pacific Cup matches in late May.

"After making all the possible mistakes, we are trying to defend much firmer and attack more effectively and flexibly," he said.

Chinese women's football team will play two friendship matches with Australian teams on August 14 and 17.

On September 7, they will compete with German team in Canberra, Australia as a warming-up game, Ma added.
