Corruption Under Control in Shenzhen: Mayor

The overseas reports that many corrupt officials have popped up in Shenzhen and many leadership cadres have been arrested are exaggerated, said Shenzhen Mayor Yu Youjun Tuesday at a State Council press conference.

He said, Shenzhen had individual cadres who have been investigated for violating laws and suspected of "economic problems." But Shenzhen has already effectively kept corruption under control.

He also stressed that Shenzhen does not allow pornography, gambling or drugs to be publicly available. The government has not changed its anti-pornography, anti-gambling and anti-narcotics attitude.

Yu Youjun said, if corruption becomes pervasive and not controlled, it would affect the development of the area. Shenzhen is very concerned about its anti-corruption campaign, especially in the past few years.

Shenzhen has adopted a series of measures to restrict combat corruption and increased the punishment for those found guilty of corruption. He says that after adopting these measures, corruption should be controlled.
