BOC, Insurance Firm to Cooperate in E-Business

The Bank of China (BOC) and Ping'an Insurance Company signed an agreement on E-business cooperation Tuesday in Shenzhen.

This is the first case of cooperation between a Chinese commercial bank and a life insurance company.

Under the agreement, the bank's computer system will be linked to a special line to the insurance company's business website -- Pa18.com -- which is expected to go into service on August 18.

Customers will be able to buy and sell stocks, buy insurance, purchase goods, check bank accounts and transfer accounts on-line.

The cooperation will help both sides to increase their competitiveness in the markets and reduce financial risks, said BOC Governor Liu Mingkang.
