Second China Hi-Tech Fair to Open in Shenzhen

Following deals worth 6.5 billion yuan last year, China is to hold its 2nd Hi-Tech Fair on October 11-17 in Shenzhen, the country's first special economic zone bordering Hong Kong.

Yu Youjun, mayor of Shenzhen, told a press conference Tuesday in Beijing that after expanding the floor space by 50 percent, he is still afraid that there wont be enough room for everyone.

Eleven countries and regions including Germany, Britain, Italy, Belgium, Australia and Russia have reserved trade booths and are organizing delegations. More than 300 investors from Canada, Australia, and France also want to take part in the fair.

In addition, 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, as well as 20 institutions of higher learning inside China will also attend.

A hi-tech forum will include lectures on the IT industry in the 21st century, hi-tech investment and bioengineering in the 21st Century.

The forum will provide platform for three Nobel laureates, CEOs of leading international companies and promising young entrepreneurs emerging from the IT industry.

The China Hi-Tech Fair is sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Information Industry, the China Academy of Sciences and the Shenzhen Government.
