Shanghai Customs Smashes Gang Smuggling Auto Parts

Shanghai Customs announced Tuesday that the customs officers have smashed a gang involved in smuggling automobile parts and handed it over to local procuratorate for further investigation.

In January this year, the Shanghai branch of an international transport company applied to the Wusong Customs for permission to import 10 tons of calcium carbonate. However, customs officers found in the container automobile parts which are only allowed to be imported with the approval of concerned departments.

Shanghai Customs confirmed that the suspects imported the automobile parts for a Taiwan businessman. All the five suspects have been arrested by local anti-smuggling officers.

Local anti-smuggling officers have uncovered another seven smuggling cases committed by the gang, who evaded a total of 335,000 yuan (42,168 U.S. dollars) in taxes.
