Reports of Pyramids in Tibet Untrue

A Russian monthly published five articles by Russian scientists claiming to have found more than 100 pyramids in Tibet this May-June. Chinese scientists investigated the evidence provided by the Russian team as well as the five articles and determined that the story of Tibetan pyramids is fabricated.

The Russian team was led by an ophthalmologist but the professional qualifications of the three other team members have not been made public. The team says that they used a computer to outline the shape of the Kangrinboge mountain to discover a stair-shaped pyramid at the peak, 6,656 meters above sea level, surrounded by triangular pyramids. Xinhua News Agency reporters have repeatedly asked members of the Russian team for interviews but have been unsuccessful.

Zhang Qingsong, a geographer at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and He Xiwu, a researcher at the State Key Laboratory of Resources, who have been to Kangrinboge mountain several times say that they completely disagree with the Russians. They say that the mountains in the area were formed 4,000 years ago from layers upon layers of rough conglomerate and fine sandstone, forming the appearance of a staircase-shaped pyramid. Conglomerate and sandstone¡¯s abilities to fight erosion are different. Thousands of years of wind and rains have caused the peak to form the appearance of a stair-shaped pyramid. The ¡°pyramids¡± are naturally formed mountains.

The reporters from the Russian monthly have asked the head of the team why hadn¡¯t anyone else discovered the pyramids before. He replied that the locals considered the Kangrinboge mountain peak a ¡°sacred mountain¡± and therefore did not investigate. Also, the high mountains discouraged people from discovering the pyramids.

The Chinese scientists say that the Russian is clueless. Since 1973, the Chinese Academy of Science has sent scientists from various fields to explore Kangrinboge mountain many times but they never found any pyramids.

If there are pyramids on the mountain peak, who built them then? The Russian scientist says ¡°I think that million years ago, the people of Atlas built these pyramids.¡±

Wu Xinzhi, a member of the Chinese Academy of Science, said that in 1954, scientist found fossils of ancient people in Algeria from four to five million years ago, who were called the people of Atlas. Wu says that he doesn¡¯t believe that the people of Atlas would go to Tibet to build pyramids. He says, ¡°I don¡¯t think it's the Atlas people who created the pyramids, these pyramids are fabricated by the Russian.¡±
