Shanghai Bell to Expand Telecom Capacity in Guizhou

The Shanghai Bell Company Limited has announced that it will take part in a telecommunications project in southwest China's Guizhou Province.

The Sino-Belgian joint venture will help expand the telecommunications capacity in the provincial capital Guiyang, the city of Qiannan and Qianxinan Prefecture, installing and upgrading some 50,000 telephone lines.

The project, scheduled for completion by mid-September this year, will boost the development of water resources, the metallurgical industry, breweries and tourism in the province, said a government official.

Guizhou has stepped up the development of telecommunications infrastructure in recent years, and all the townships in the province have gained access to telephone services.

The landlocked province plans to renovate its telecommunications network with wide application of IP technology, the official said.
