Seminar Stresses Positive Cross-Straits DialogueThe reunification of both sides of the Taiwan Straits must be part of China's modernization drive, according to Tuesday's China Daily. The agreement came at a two-day seminar which finished Monday in Shenyang, capital city of Northeast China's Liaoning Province. Officials and experts from Taiwan and the mainland expressed their confidence in the mainland's ability to achieve modernization and peaceful reunification with Taiwan after reviewing the mainland's accomplishment on economic reform. Wang Sheng, head of the Taiwan delegation, said he believed the reunification of Taiwan and the mainland was inevitable, and was welcomed by all Chinese people. "I hope the Taiwan question can be solved as soon as possible. We are, after all, all from one family and should work together towards our country's modernization," Wang said. The mainland's economic accomplishments have won applause from Taiwan and the rest of the world, Wang said, and had led to improvements in its military forces, especially in terms of new technology. "Both sides should get together to conduct 'meaningful' co-operation and positive dialogue," Wang said. " Only a very small number of people in Taiwan are seeking independence. It is indisputable that Taiwan was, still is and will always be a part of China," Wang said. Composed of 60 scholars and top entrepreneurs from Taiwan, the delegation discussed current big issues with their mainland counterparts, including the ongoing reforms of State-owned enterprises on the mainland, the booming information business and industry streamlining in rural areas. |
