Shenzhen to Further Cooperation with HK, Macao: Mayor

Shenzhen, China's first special economic zone, will enhance cooperation with the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, said Mayor Yu Youjun Tuesday in Beijing.

Yu was speaking at a news conference held by the State Council Information Office to mark the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.

The mayor said that not long ago he talked with Hong Kong's chief executive Tung Chee Hwa on a number of issues including cooperation on infrastructure development, hi-tech industry and environmental protection.

He also plans to meet Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of Macao to share their views on cooperation.

Over the past two decades, Shenzhen has built up close ties with Hong Kong and these ties have become even closer since the return of Hong Kong, he said.

He said that Hong Kong is advanced in information technology, banking industry and marketing and Shenzhen, in contrast, has space for development, advantages in environment and urban construction.

The mayor said that Shenzhen could cooperate with Macao in developing tourism industry.
